Q&A at the end of the article:

Why are there no Class B fire windows?

Fireproof windows can isolate and prevent the spread of fire. At the same time, they have the functions of ventilation (movable fireproof windows) and lighting. They are mainly used in the following places (specifically according to the specifications):

1. On the outer walls of two buildings with insufficient fire separation distance, fire windows can be used when lighting and ventilation are required.

2. Fire windows can be used when lighting, ventilation or observation is required on the fire wall or fire partition wall in the building.

Chapter 1 Main Classification

1. Fire windows can be divided into fixed fire windows and movable fire windows.

For movable fire windows, the opening and closing of the window sash is controlled by the window sash opening and closing control device. It has the function of manual control of opening and closing, and at least has the function of automatic control and closing of heat-sensitive components such as fusible alloy parts or glass balls. When the temperature reaches a certain temperature, the fire window is automatically closed.

Note: The opening and closing control mode of the window sash can be additionally controlled by electric control, such as: electric signal controls electromagnet to close or open, electric signal controls motor to close or open, electric signal pneumatic mechanism closes or opens, etc.

2. Under normal circumstances, fireproof window products are named after the main materials of their window frames and sash frames, which are mainly divided into steel fireproof windows, wooden fireproof windows, and steel-wood composite fireproof windows. Among them, steel fireproof windows are the most widely used:

3. According to fire resistance, fire windows include thermal insulation fire windows and non-insulation fire windows, which can be divided into multiple fire resistance grades;

Thermal insulation and fireproof windows (Type A) refer to fireproof windows that can meet the requirements of fire resistance, heat insulation and fire integrity at the same time within a specified time. Non-insulated fire windows (Category C) refer to fire windows that can meet the requirements of fire integrity within a specified time.

In practical applications, if the model is not specified, it usually refers to thermal insulation fire windows (Type A).

Chapter 2 Main Applications

1. Fireproof windows are mainly used in the following places (specifically according to the specifications):

1. On the outer walls of two buildings with insufficient fire separation distance, fire windows can be used when lighting and ventilation are required.

2. Fire windows can be used when lighting, ventilation or observation is required on the fire wall or fire partition wall in the building.

二、exist《Architectural design code for fire protection》Among them, the three types of fire windows that have practical applications are Class A (1.5h), Class B (1.0h) and Class C (0.5h).

It can be seen from the above table that the three types of fire windows A, B and C are all thermal insulation fire windows (type A), and the corresponding fire resistance limits are 1.5h, 1.0h and 0.5h respectively.

Note: The classification of fire windows is similar to that of fire doors.《Architectural design code for fire protection》Among them, the three types of fire doors that have practical applications are mainly Class A, Class B and Class C, and the corresponding fire resistance limits are 1.5h, 1.0h, and 0.5h, respectively.

3. The fireproof windows that only require fire-resistance integrity mentioned in the specification refer to the non-insulated fireproof windows (Type C) in the above table. The application of such fireproof windows is not widespread. Fire windows (Class A), Class A fire windows can replace Class C fire windows.

Chapter 3 Discussion on Difficulties

Why are there no Class B fire windows?

The glass of fireproof windows should be fireproof glass, and the fire resistance of fireproof glass should meet the conditions of the corresponding category of fireproof windows.

Class B fire-resistant glass refers to a class of fire-resistant glass that meets both fire-resistant integrity and thermal radiation intensity.《Safety glass for construction - Part 1: Fire-resistant glass》In the specification (GB15763.1-2009), Class B fireproof glass is cancelled, and only Class A and Class C fireproof glass are retained. Therefore, the corresponding Class B fireproof window does not exist.
